Our history
a fairy tale...
On a hot summer morning, in a secluded place on the south-west side of the municipality of Montalcino, Sandra and Roberto accidentally found themselves in front of an abandoned piece of land. Sunlight filtered through the leaves of the trees, while the wind promised a prosperous future. This moment would become crucial for them, even if they didn't know it at the time.
An impulse pushed them to purchase that uncultivated land, which turned out to have special characteristics. The soil, composed of clay, silty marl, marl and palombine, proved ideal for growing grapes. In 1999, Sandra and Roberto planted two and a half hectares of Sangiovese vineyards, known as Brunello, fueled by their passion and desire to create something unique.
The years passed with dedication and love for plants. Each plant was cared for carefully, and the seasons played their part in the growth of the vines. In 2009, they produced their first Brunello di Montalcino DOCG with pride, and Rosso di Montalcino DOC became one of their creations. Extra virgin olive oil and Brunello Extra Grape Jam joined the production, highlighting the talent and dedication of Sandra and Roberto.
Querce Bettina was the name given to their company, and their story spread as a tale of passion and success. Their wines captured the essence of the land, while the other productions brought the soul of those places to consumers. Querce Bettina became a place of oenological magic, offering bottles full of aromas and flavours, and transporting those who tasted them on a journey through emotions and dreams.
Legend tells...
A popular legend dating back to the end of the nineteenth century, narrates that at the foot of a majestic oak, twisted in the trunk and with a vast crown, sat a kind old woman, intent on spinning wool, who told the young people who accompanied the herds and sheep grazing ancient stories of magic and mystery.
Of the little lady who called herself "Bettina", nothing else was known, neither where she came from nor where she came from; as it turned out later…. vanished, leaving behind that atmosphere of mystery and its enchanted stories that filled the winter evenings next to the fireplaces.
Everyone, at least once, had met Bettina and had drawn from her the strong memory and the magical influence of words, but when they spoke of this place, they could only affirm that they had passed to the "Querce Bettina"
the company
The company named Querce Bettina is owned by Mrs. Barenghi Vilma Sandra and is located in Montalcino (SI) Loc. La Casina di Mocali, 275. The construction of the house took place in the years 1994-1995, while the agricultural part was completed with the construction of a cellar of about 230 square meters, finished in 2005.
The agricultural area covers a total of 29.15.68 hectares, including a one-hectare vineyard for Brunello DOCG, a vineyard for Rosso di Montalcino DOC of about 1.4 hectares, and an olive grove covering an area of about 1.5 hectares. Additionally, there are arable lands and adjacent areas of about 6 thousand square meters. The property also includes approximately 24 hectares of Mediterranean scrubland and bushy pastures. The olive grove has been in production since 1995 and consists of approximately 530 plants, including a specialized selection of cultivars such as Leccino, Moraiolo, Correggiolo, and pollinator.
Approximately 7000 square meters of officinal lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) have been added, from which high-quality essential oil is expected to be extracted. The vineyard was planted in March 1999 and entered production in the 2002/2003 period. The grapevines are strictly Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello), spaced about 2.50 meters between rows and about 80 cm between plants. The training system is the "cordon spur in a single direction."
Current entries in the wine registers are: Ha 01.00.00 DOGC Brunello and Ha 01.35.00 DOC Rosso di Montalcino, allowing an annual production of approximately 6500 bottles of Brunello DOCG and about 9000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino DOC.
The crops and the company are located at approximately 440 meters above sea level on the southwest side of the Montalcino hill, bordering with the agricultural companies of Poggio Salvi, Bolsignano, Mocali, and Zucca.
