Azienda Agricola Querce Bettina

Querce Bettina is a family run farm founded in 1992 on the southwest side of Montalcino at around 440 m. above the sea-level. In 1999 the owners  Sandra Barenghi and Roberto Moretti planted two and a half hectars with precious 100% Sangiovese vines. Their aim was to create out of that land rich in clay and sandy marl, two kinds of wine of excellence: the “Rosso of Montalcino DOC” and the “Brunello of Montalcino DOCG”. Today, after some years, their plan has come true: Querce Bettina signs the “Rosso Doc” and in 2009 has presented and put on sale its first “Brunello Docg”. A fine extra virgin oil and a preserve made of  Brunello grapes complete the range of products.

The Legend of the Old Lady

Illustrazione della vecchina e della quercia della Leggenda di Querce Bettina

A legend dating back to the late 19th century tells of a kind old lady sitting under an imposing oak tree , while spinning wool and telling charming stories of witches and wizards to the young shepherds passing by. The lady’s name was Bettina, but nobody knew where she lived or came from; she simply used to appear and disappear at her pleasure leaving behind her an aura of mystery people never forgot. Everybody said they met Bettina at least once, but if asked where exactly, the only answer was “oh near Querce Bettina, you know!”

Wine and Wellbeing

For several years now Querce Bettina has been working closely with “Vino e Salute“(Wine and Health), an Italian association underlining the advantages to combine the healthy Mediterranean diet with an agreeable and good glass of red wine. The association members are doctors and researchers from the Universities of Siena, Pisa, Florence and Chieti, and are all interested in going-on studies concerning the genetics of taste and the benefits of polyphenols, antioxidants and resveratrol whose presence in red wine is very rich.
